UPDATE MARCH 13: Total War Warhammer 3’s patch 6.1 release date and Mother Ostankya new start location option revealed.
UPDATE MARCH 24: Full patch notes revealed.
Total War: Warhammer 3’s patch 6.1 is currently in development and Creative Assembly revealed today that the long-awaited Kislev rework is finally happening.
As one of Warhammer 3’s frostiest factions gets a shake-up, the divisive Shadows of Change DLC will also be split into three separate lord packs, following the model used by the grand strategy game’s more recent releases.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Patch 6.1
A key part of Total War: Warhammer III’s patch 6.1 Kislev rework sees the supporter race going away in favor of a new system.
Although we’ll still work towards building support for The Ice Court and the Grand Orthodoxy “via a variety of actions, including fielding relevant units, using thematically aligned agents, constructing buildings and dedicating your atamans,” reaching higher levels rewards us with powerful boons.
The former can help us improve our elite infantry, spellcasting, and hero usage, while the latter bolsters our common line troops, economy, and invocations.
“A key change here however is that this is no longer a race, instead supporting only one side of the conflict can cause rising unrest, and invite disorder into Kislev,” the developer explains in a blog on the game’s forums.
“In the face of the growing threat of chaos, Kislev must seek unity. Therefore players are encouraged to balance the support they curry for each of the factions, you may favor one, but favoring them too strongly incurs the wrath of the other.”
Devotion will no longer be a faction-wide currency, instead replacing control in Total War: Warhammer III’s patch 6.1. In addition to helping us gauge how content our people are, it can also be spent on local invocations that “temporarily boost the local province, or to empower an army temporarily.”
Interestingly enough, high levels of Devotion allow the faction to counteract climate penalties, granting significantly more flexibility when settling new lands “in exchange for a slow ramp up to suitability, and making the territory unsuitable for using invocations.”
The Kislev rework also makes Atamans no longer recruitable as standard lords. Instead, they lead the garrison of province capitals, allowing us to command the settlements they manage to battle enemies “within a limited distance, as if the settlements themselves were armies.”
Lastly, Kislev’s tech tree will also receive attention, being split into three different categories and having its technologies revamped.
Although it won’t touch the Changeling, Warhammer III’s update 6.1 does bring tweaks to Kairos Fateweaver, primarily revolving around the Fragments of Sorcery system.
Lastly, two new units are on their way. The Nan-Gau Grenadiers bolster Cathay’s roster while the Gnoblar Flingers give the Ogre Kingdoms more bodies to throw into the meat grinder.
These aren’t all of the features coming in Total War: Warhammer III’s patch 6.1, but the Kislev rework and Fragments of Sorcery changes are the update’s “major hits”, according to the developer.
In mid-March, we learned that Mother Ostankya is getting a choice between keeping her original start location or returning to Kislev. Total War: Warhammer III’s patch 6.1 release date is currently scheduled for March 25.
One day prior, the full patch notes were shared, showing off the finalized UI for the reworked Kislev and Tzeentch mechanics while delving further into how they’re changing.
A set of bug fixes is also on the way, as are a plethora of unit and ability balance changes. In addition, a notable improvement to the ability display list that unclutters the icons, making it more easily readable, is also planned.
