Total War: Warhammer 3’s highly anticipated release has proven quite popular on Steam, where its concurrent player count passed the 160,000 mark on launch day.
Not only did Total War: Warhammer 3’s player count secure it a deserved spot among the top 10 most played games on Steam, but its numbers are significantly higher than those of the previous two entries in the trilogy.
As website Steam Database points out, Total War: Warhammer III peaked at 166,754 concurrent players. By comparison, the first part of the trilogy managed to reach a peak of 113,019 concurrent players while its sequel only got as high as 84,920.
Naturally, these numbers don’t tell the whole story, as Warhammer III is also available on the Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and Xbox Game Pass.
Nevertheless, it’s clear that its daemon-filled roster alongside the promise of playing as Kislev, Cathay, or the Ogre Kingdoms caught the eye of many fans, even as complaints about its performance and pre-launch marketing strategy in China put it at a Mixed rating.
I enjoyed my time with the game quite a bit while reviewing it and found it to be a glorious finale to a trilogy that’s eaten hundreds of hours of my life.
There’s a good chance that Total War: Warhammer III’s player count will grow over the weekend and it’ll be interesting to see if the upcoming launch of its massive Mortal Empires map will take it to even greater heights.
Total War: Warhammer III is out now on PC. You can grab it from Fanatical, other major storefronts, as well as Xbox Game Pass.
