With Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones facing yet another delay, it can be difficult to find a recent seafaring game aside from Sea of Thieves. However, for gamers who have always dreamed of being an admiral, there is a new title set to release next week from Koei Tecmo Games and Motif.
Uncharted Waters: Origin is the latest addition to the Uncharted Waters series, and it’s a free-to-play game. It follows the series’ tradition of portraying 16th-century seafaring as a romanticized sandbox RPG. Players will have the opportunity to engage in trade, fight against pirates, and recruit famous figures from the era to join their team.
Uncharted Waters: Origin Release Date
To support the upcoming release day, the developers released a cinematic trailer (watch below) as an example of the game’s tone rather than its gameplay. If you would prefer a better idea of how the game plays, the team released a preview of the game’s turn-based combat last month.
Uncharted Waters: Origin was first released last year in South Korea, winning multiple awards in the 2022 Korea Game Awards, including the Excellence Award. With its international release, Uncharted Waters Origin will have English, Japanese, and Chinese language (Simplified/Traditional) support.
Notably, the game will feature crossplay functionality between mobile and PC platforms, with a focus on the mobile market. Players can enjoy the game on their iPhone, Android device, PC, and even Steam Deck. Those who pre-register for the game on the official Uncharted Waters website will receive additional supplies for their account
Uncharted Waters, a popular game series, was first released in 1990 on PC, Super Nintendo, and Genesis. However, most of the games in the franchise were not available outside of Japan.
Currently, numerous games from the series are available on Steam, including the free-to-play MMO Uncharted Waters Online. However, if you’re interested in playing the original games, the Steam ports of Uncharted Waters 1 and 2 are only available in Japanese and have not been translated into English.
