Publisher Firesquid alongside co-developers Angry Cat Studios and Creation 49 today announced that turn-based tactical game USC: Counterforce will be playable for the first time this week, during the digital TactiCon event held on Steam.
Inspired by titles such as XCOM and Jagged Alliance, USC: Counterforce puts players in control of a commando strike team sent to investigate and neutralize the alien threat on planetary body M-8322. A demo will be made available during TactiCon, showcasing a slice of the game and giving us a taste of how replayable the full game will be.
The game includes a class-free skill system alongside a full arsenal of weapons and gadgets that allow you to customize your units. It’s also said to feature “extremely challenging missions across multiple game modes.”
Multi-layered destructible environments also play into the tactical decisions you must make, as both the surrounding terrain and buildings can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes.
Environmental hazards and buildable barricades further expand the tools available to you, but you can expect your alien opponents to also use similar tactics.
USC: Counterforce’s full version will also include a “story-driven, procedurally generated, multi-ended Campaign mode” in which you also oversee your planetbase installation and the defense of your fleet and the relay station to Earth.
The title is expected to launch in early access in Q1 2023, but you can try out its TactiCon demo between September 22 and September 26.
