Verdun is gearing up for its traditional Christmas-time event, and this time around, its effects are going to be bleeding into the real world, too. Developers M2H are going to be joining forces with Trees for All, a Dutch anti-deforestation foundation, to plant Christmas trees.
Verdun Christmas tree event is going to be released as yet another holiday addition to the popular WW1 shooter for players to participate in, allowing them to plant - you've guessed it - Christmas trees as they go along.
For such a grim game, Verdun sure does go all-out when it comes to the holiday season. Over the last few years, we've had the chance to engage in snowball fights, play football, and exchange Christmas cards on a specially-crafted map. Now, we'll also have the opportunity to plant actual Christmas trees in the trenches!
Working with Trees for All, M2H will be donating 2,500 trees to the forests of Netherlands and Uganda in the fall of 2019, thus attempting to compensate for concurrent CO2 emissions worldwide. Developers M2H won't be asking for any sort of donation from players, though they will challenge them to try and plant no less than 2,500 trees in-game as a show of solidarity!
Those players who will choose to engage with the developers and, indeed, plant a Christmas tree, will be added to the so-called Tree log and receive a special yearly Christmas Truce medal.
