Publisher and developer Bohemia Interactive has seen quite a bit of success with free-to-play looter shooter Vigor. Initially released on Xbox One in 2019, after some time spent in Early Access, the game gradually made its way to other consoles. A PC release, however, continues to look unlikely three years later.
Despite fans consistently asking over the years about a potential Vigor PC release, Bohemia Interactive has maintained its focus on the console versions of the game.
A tweet from 2019 said that, at the time, there were “no plans” for Vigor to release on PC, labeling the game as an Xbox exclusive. One year after releasing on Xbox One, the game arrived on the Nintendo Switch.
Later in 2020, it also launched on the PS4 and in 2021 there’s a PS5 version in the works. Although in July 2020 the developer said that it was “not opposed to the idea of expanding on other platforms,” those platforms didn’t include the PC.
In 2021, we don’t seem to be any closer to a Vigor PC release. The FAQ section of the game’s website continues to state the following: “We currently have no plans to release Vigor on PC or mobile platforms.”
Common fan speculation on why PC is being overlooked includes existing competition – although Vigor does have the free-to-play element as an advantage – and the title simply being designed with consoles in mind.
It’s hard to say whether or not these are the actual reasons behind Bohemia’s decision but, for the time being, we’ll have to either wait or play Vigor’s console versions.
