What are Legacy Gem’s and how do they work in Smite 2? Legacy Gems are Hi-Rez Studios’ solution for transferring Smite skins and purchases over to the sequel, Smite 2. It’s a currency that can be transferred based on what items you’ve bought in the original game.
Smite 2 was developed using Unreal Engine 5, requiring Titan Forge Games to rework or recreate any content they wish to carry over from the original game. While players cannot directly transfer content to the sequel, anything from Season 11 onwards will be available in Smite 2. For any other content, you will have to buy it again using these Legacy Gems.
Yes, but how do Legacy Gems work in Smite 2?
Smite 2 Legacy Gems act as a discount to purchase skins and will be rewarded to every player who’s bought skins in the original Smite. If you purchase the Smite 2 Founder’s Pack, you will be given two Legacy Gems for every Gem spent.
How many skins have you purchased in Smite? For every gem spent in the game, running all the way back to 8th September 2015, an equal amount of Legacy Gems will be given to you for use in Smite 2. This only counts for gems spent, not bought.
“Legacy Gems can be used to pay for 50% of the price of most in-game purchases in SMITE 2 – so things like skins, Battle Passes, and events in SMITE 2 will be half-off until you spend all of your Legacy Gems.” explained Hi-Rez Studios on the official website.
Executive producer Alex Cantatore recently explained in an interview why Legacy Gems have been made and why it wanted to keep the community happy even though it wouldn’t be able to transfer skins over due to Unreal Engine 5.
“A lot of us come from the community. We tried to think of a plan that would make the community as happy as we possibly can with the constraints of us not being able to do everything.” said Cantatore.
“At that point, we were like maybe that’s enough. Maybe we’ve found a good level where we can give players something they’re happy with in this transition, even though we can’t give them everything. You’re getting all your money that you can use for 50% new stuff, you can show off your mastery and some of your specific Smite 1 skins.”
Unfortunately, it’s possible that some licensed skins won’t be available for the discount using Legacy Gems, but all unlicensed skins should be available to purchase without any problems.
Smite 2 is coming out on the 27th August, so we will be exploring more with the Legacy Gems feature and see if we can keep you posted on what else we find in the future.
