Molten glass is very effective for those working on their crafting and construction skills.
Two of the more useful skills to have in Old School Runescape are crafting and construction. If you have been working towards maxing out these skills, then you might have come across molten glass. This is an essential item that can even help you to earn more OSRS gold.
About OSRS Molten Glass
In OSRS, molten glass can be used to benefit your crafting and construction skills. This is something that’s also used in a few quests too, where you have to form glass items in the game. To make your own, you have to create it using your crafting skill. There’s a couple of items that we will need as well, including soda ash and a bucket of sand. The items will need to be used on a furnace to make the molten glass, for which you will receive 20 crafting experience for your troubles.
To start making the molten glass, you only need to be at level 1 in your crafting skill. However, there is another method that you can use. There is a lunar spell known as Superglass Make, in which all of the seaweed, soda ash or buckets of sand will be turned into molten glass. For each pair of items that you have, you will receive 10 crafting experience.
What is OSRS Molten Glass Used For?
Molten glass is used in certain quests throughout the game. The quests that involve this item include Another Slice of H.A.M, Desert Treasure, Observatory Quest, Horror from the Deep, The Fremennik Exiles and Wanted! This isn’t part of one of the many OSRS items for sale, as it’s not available in any of the shops in Old School Runescape. There are buckets of sand and soda ash that you can buy from shops, however, such as the charter ship stores. If you are playing as an ironman, then you may find it handy for you to purchase both items with your OSRS GP. They aren’t too expensive if you have enough gold spare, not to the point where you will have to buy OSRS gold. With the necessary items, you can go and smelt them in a furnace to get the desired items.
The buckets of sand and soda ash are the items we use on the furnace, which will get us a single piece of molten glass. Specifically, the yield is at 1.0. Meanwhile, if you were to use the Superglass Make using the buckets of sand and soda ash, the yield that you get is at 1.3.
You can use them on a fire too, where giant seaweed will be turned into 6 soda ash once it has been cooked completely. This will be a better alternative than just getting the single that you receive from the normal seaweed in the gain. That being said, that is only if the cook is successful. If it happens to fail, then you will only get one soda ash instead. The Superglass Make spell being used with giant seaweed works as 6 normal seaweed, and you’ll get 60 crafting experience when you cast it. With 2 giant seaweed and 12 buckets of sand, you can then get 1.45 molten glass for every bucket of sand. Or, you could make 1.6 molten glass with 18 buckets of sand and 3 giant seaweed.
When using that last method, you may notice that pieces of glass will start to appear on the ground as it can’t get into your inventory. Should you not pick it up, you will see a higher increase in the amount of glass that’s produced. This however will mean that it is at a higher cost of the materials that you get. You will get a higher yield using the 18 buckets of sand and 3 giant seaweed, so it’s best to stick to that method.
A final point to make about using the Superglass Make spell would be the yield that you get from it. There is a randomness to the amount that you get when you use the spell. With that in mind, if you’re taking a closer look at the amount to expect, you are going to be looking at averages overall.
To get the materials that you need you could also choose to find a site that has OSRS gold for sale. Though you are likely to have enough to afford the necessary materials, that extra gold that you purchase can be very useful in other aspects of the game. Players who do want to gain a bit more experience whilst crafting a useful item will certainly get something out of OSRS molten glass.
