The Witcher IV’s official reveal counts among the most notable moments of 2024’s The Game Awards, confirming Ciri as the upcoming RPG’s protagonist while sparking questions about whether or not Geralt will make an appearance.
Although The Witcher 3’s final DLC gave the character’s story a fitting conclusion, suggesting that the old monster hunter might finally get to enjoy some rest after defeating countless monstrous foes, Geralt of Rivia remains one of the most iconic protagonists to date, so it’s understandable why fans want him back.
Will Geralt appear in the The Witcher 4?
Even if Ciri is confirmed to lead the fourth game and the new saga developer CD Projekt Red hopes to spin out of it, it seems that Geralt is still sticking around in some capacity.
This was first suggested by the character’s voice actor, Doug Cockle, who confirmed earlier this year that “Geralt will be part of the game, we just don’t know how much, and the game won’t focus on Geralt.”
The White Wolf himself didn’t make an appearance in the sequel’s official cinematic reveal trailer, but, just as it finished airing during The Game Awards, his voice could briefly be heard saying the following words: “Time for a new saga. See you on the path.”
The definite answer to whether or not Geralt will appear in The Witcher 4 comes from developer CD Projekt Red, who told IGN that the character is, indeed, part of its upcoming game.
His exact role wasn’t mentioned yet, but it’s safe to say that it will be smaller, at least when compared to the original trilogy.
Whether this means we’ll meet him as part of a short side quest or have him actively supporting Ciri on her journey remains to be seen, and could potentially be something the developer reveals in the lead-up to release.
