As 2024 comes to a close, World of Warcraft: Classic’s Season of Discovery Phase 6 offers another opportunity to relive the Ahn’Qiraj War in all its glory. Rather than a single release date, the phase will gradually roll out throughout November, culminating with the opening of its three raids in the following month.
WoW Classic’s SoD Phase 6 starts on September November 12, 2024, at 1 PM PST/9 PM GMT, when the quest series that leads to the creation of the Scepter of the Sands first becomes available.

The War Effort against the forces of Ahn’Qiraj then kicks off on November 21, at the same times as above. Both the Horde and the Alliance can contribute supplies in Orgrimmar’s Valley of Spirits and Ironforge’s Military Ward, respectively, receiving valuable items and Commendation Signets that help players gain reputation with their faction.
Supplies can be obtained via loot drops, professions, or from the Auction House. Furthermore, materials can be exchanged for Commendation Signets even after the War Effort segment of Season of Discovery’s Phase 6 ends on November 29.
On December 4, the proper Ahn’Qiraj War begins, as Anubisath and Qiraji forces assail specific zones. Low-level players can fight them in the Barrens and Thousand Needles, while high-level players should head to Silithus, Tanaris, and Feralas.
Aiding in the defense is a great way to earn gold, experience, and reputation with the Brood of Nozdormu factions. In addition, these activities also come with a higher chance for rare drops.
Between December 4 and December 6, we can also complete the Scepter of the Sands questline. Players who manage to do so and ring the gong on their realm will also receive the famed Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal, which summons a Qiraji battle tank mount that helps you get around faster both across Azeroth and inside the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj raid.
On December 6, World of Warcraft: Season of Discovery Phase 6 treats PvE enthusiasts to three new raid dungeons: the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj, Ruins of Ahn’Qiraj, and Nightmare Grove.
The first two iconic raids benefit from a new difficulty system in WoW: Classic’s SoD Phase 6 dubbed Descent into Madness.
Optional in nature, it can be accessed before their first bosses, promising additional rewards at the cost of increased difficulty and a limited number of attempts.
After successfully defeating a boss, we can choose to loot the bonus chest for the additional rewards or move on. The latter option destroys the first chest, but offers another after the following encounter.
Checkpoints are also available, ensuring that, should the raid group eventually fail, it won’t leave without any bonus loot on top of the usual rewards.
“Compared to previous phases of Season of Discovery, the amount of loot per boss is being migrated from requiring the harder difficulty, to most of it being awarded baseline. The base number of drops per boss will be higher, the bonus loot will be very limited, and many of these additional rewards will also be cosmetic in nature,” reads an article dedicated to World of Warcraft Classic’s Season of Discovery Phase 6.
The Emerald Dream groves, then grant access to the Dragons of Nightmare – Emeriss, Lethon, Taerrar, and Ysondre –, providing a much-needed break from the scorching sands of Silithus and cosmic horror vibes of Ahn’Qiraj.
