World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic is out now and if you count among those who’ve felt Northrend’s chill biting into their bones, you might want to know how to get to Dalaran for a bit of warmth.
Dalaran is the main hub in WotLK classic for both Alliance and Horde but, unlike its retail counterparts, you won’t get to it right after starting your adventure in Northrend. This can feel a bit confusing as you start mowing down enemies in the Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord, but you’re actually not meant to reach the city until later during leveling. Read on below for the three main options to do so.
How to Get to Dalaran in WotLK Classic
The first method by which you can get to Dalaran in WotLK Classic is as simple as playing through the game. Once you reach level 74, you can pick up a quest called The Magical Kingdom of Dalaran from several NPCs on both the Horde and Alliance sides.
Talking to the NPC prompts them to open a portal that sends you directly to the floating city. Inside, you can pick up the next quest in the chain and unlock a portal down to Crystalsong Forest.
From this point on, you can use the latter to get back to Dalaran whenever needed (although you can also set your Hearthstone there).
Sadly, you cannot rush the Crystalsong Forest portal first, as it won’t work unless you get to it via the quest mentioned above.
The second method to get to Dalaran in World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic is by using a mage portal. The mage class can learn the spell at level 74, enabling it to transport both itself and party members to the hub city.
Lastly, the third method to reach the city is to simply fly there, although you’re likely to mainly use it on alts. Your main can only learn Cold Weather Flying – the skill required to fly in Northrend – at level 77, so after the previous two options become available.
After doing so, you can purchase copies of the tome used to teach the skill and send it to your alts, which won’t need to wait until level 77 to learn the skill.
This means that your second character and any beyond it can just take to the skies and make their way to Dalaran on their trusty flying mounts, although you might want to stop by the flight paths on the way to grab them while you’re at it.
This is what you need to know about how to get to Dalaran in World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic. For more on the game, check out who claimed world first level 80 mere hours after the expansion launched.
