World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic is officially coming in 2022, bringing back what many see as the MMORPG’s most beloved expansion. Its pre-patch release date will be the first step on our journey to Northrend, giving us a chance to prepare our characters for the fight against Arthas’ minions.
WoW: WotLK’s pre-patch release date also marks the first chance we’ll get to play as the MMORPG’s first-ever hero class, the Death Knight. Following Blizzard’s shift in philosophy towards implementing some changes, you’ll be able to create your first Death Knight even if you don’t have a level 55 character.
WoW: WotLK Pre-Patch Release Date
The expansion was officially unveiled in April when the developer confirmed that it is set to launch at some point in 2022. While players are able to opt-in to the game’s inevitable beta, no exact WoW: WotLK pre-patch release date has been shared.
Similarly, there’s no official word on when the expansion itself might launch, aside from the fact that it is coming later in the year, although Blizzard may have accidentally leaked the release date by updating the official website with a listing of September 26, 2022.
The listing was swiftly removed, but the eagle-eyed folk at Wowhead managed to spot the date before Blizzard could remove it.
A few days later, September 26 was officially confirmed as WoW: WotLK Classic’s release date.
After waiting a bit more, the developer then revealed that the pre-patch would hit live servers on August 30/August 31, depending on your region. If you’re reading this, you can already dip in and rebel against the Lich King.
- World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic pre-patch release date: August 30/August 31 (NA/EU)
- World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic release date: September 26, 2022
This gives us roughly a month’s worth of time to level the MMORPG’s first hero class or catch up with gearing and professions for any other characters.
It’s also worth mentioning that the Joyous Journeys buff remains active, granting 50% more experience for all characters, unless toggled off at an Innkeeper.
