Whitethorn Games, publisher of easygoing indie hits such as Wytchwood, Lake, and Calico, has announced that Britt Dye will assume the role of Chief Accessibility Officer at the company.
Dye has been instrumental in Whitethorn meeting and exceeding industry standards for accessibility in games since joining the company in 2021, so was a natural fit for the role. Dye’s achievements include the integration of the Xbox adaptive controller into Whitethorn-published titles and speaking at multiple panels about the need for accessibility and how to approach it.
Dye is proud of what the company has achieved for accessibility in the past two years, but was quick to point out that the job is far from done. In a statement that went out regarding the role, she said, “I recognize that we have a long way to go. We are constantly learning and growing as a company in this space, and I am excited to see what new research, community feedback, and learning we’ve gained through collaboration with accessibility-focused organizations we can implement in the years to come.”
Accessibility for video games has improved greatly in recent years, and figures such as Britt Dye have no doubt been instrumental in that. Hopefully, more publishers and developers will begin to create roles like Dye’s in order to speed up progress on this.
