As you may know, Xenonauts 2, a layered turn-based strategy game in the vein of the original X-COM games, has been in active development for some time now. However, the developers couldn't really fund the game themselves in full, and so, about a month back, they started a Kickstarter asking for £50,000, so that they could finish the project properly.
Good news - the Kickstarter for Xenonauts 2 was a resounding success! Devs collected a grand total of £191,057 from 6 826 backers, which amounts to almost 400% of the initial target.
"All of us here at Goldhawk are hugely grateful for all the backing you have given us, and it's also been really nice to read all of the comments from people who enjoyed the first game. We want to say a massive thank you to all of our backers and we'll be working hard to repay your faith in us!"
Naturally, alongside having Kickstarted the game's development, Goldhawk have also set up a number of stretch goals which have been successfully funded as well. These are: modular weapons, geoscape situations, locational injuries, MARS weapon platform and sentry guns, an additional Community Edition and modding support.
The last stretch goal wasn't funded per se, as it was going to unlock at the £200,000 target, but the development team agreed that they were going to show their gratitude to the community by unlocking this manually, as well. Seeing as how the original game's mod support was somewhat lacking in some respects, this is great news for the final longevity of Xenonauts 2.
For the time being, this is all that can be said about Xenonauts 2, but both the devs and fans can now rest easy, knowing that the game will get finished without unnecessary drama.
