There was a time when World War 2 shooter were a dime a dozen and the market was flooded with endless battlefields in that era. Now the majority franchises have moved on to different settings such as futuristic sci-fi or world war 1 there are few new releases coming for the classic FPS setting of WW2.
Days of War is a new WW2 first person shooter on early access in development by Driven Arts. The game currently features 3 maps, each with 32 player supported multiplayer and an array of WW2 weaponry to choose from. The game limits how many classes of a certain type a team can have such as only two snipers per team at any one team giving the combat a more fair and authentic feel instead of the traditional snipe fest that many shooters devolve into.
The state of the game is fairly rough right now and the gunplay, animations, effects and hit detection all need plenty of work. While the game does need work, the core fundamentals can be seen and have a lot of promise. The map design in particular is solid with Omaha beach being a fantastic attack and defend map where the American forces spawn aboard landing boats and hit the beach while the German forces hold the bunker and grass line.
The wide selection of guns coupled with good level design can lead to a fun time especially when you get a game with plenty of people in. While there are elements of the gunplay that need plenty of TLC, overall the framework is looking solid for a decent shooter.
Performance wise, Days of War can currently be a mixed bag and the dedicated servers do have occasionally lag issues. For the most part however, even in its early access state, the game runs well and maintains a consistent framerate. The lack of special effects, especially the lack of bullet hit and explosions, leave the gunplay lacking hit feedback.

Release Date
Days of War is available on early access now and the developers are estimating full release within the next 12 months or so.
Additional Thoughts
There is certainly potential in Days of War to become an enjoyable WW2 shooter but it must fix its various gunplay and relevant gameplay issues. The developers do have a clear path ahead with various content additions in the future as well as full steam workshop support and a map editor which will allow players to recreate any WW2 battlefield they so wish.
It could become a great WW2 alternative to the major franchises and if the developers deliver a quality end product, the community support given in the game could lead it to last for quite some time.
Most Anticipated Feature: Steam workshop support with a full map editor is a future edition that could make this game a great community driven experience.
