The Division launches this March and after spending time with the beta, it’s difficult to determine what Ubisoft is offering. There was only one story mission, a handful of side missions, and many other elements were locked. Grasping how you transition from story mission to story mission isn’t clear and there is no indication what the end game could be. Manhattan looked oppressed from the disease but it seems like the premise is simply a setpiece for you to shoot people in. I’m expecting more loot to be scattered around New York.
The bright spot is the loot. There’s a healthy amount - not quite Borderlands but far more than Destiny and there’s a lot of variables to determine what will interest you. But the Dark Zone didn’t provide me with satisfying random loot as I played. You can get great loot in the Dark Zone store but it’s tough to find the good stuff. I’m hoping that’s just because it was a beta. And you can forget playing by yourself. The Dark Zone requires a team if you want the best chance to secure your loot.
Ubisoft will have an open beta starting February 19 for PC, so I’m hoping with more players available and another story mission, we can get a sense of what Ubisoft is doing and how we can engage Manhattan and the Dark Zone.
