Avalanche has released a new developer diary for their upcoming open world action game Just Cause 3, and this time they discuss the game’s engine, and the complexity of having the player be not only able to affect the environment in layers in real time, but also how the AI should be reacting.
The developers note that the engine in Just Case 3 is ”an order of magnitude” more complex than the one in the previous game. ”One of the things players will see is being able to have the freedom to do many things while still kind of just playing,” noted lead character programmer Jeet Schroff.
Because the player can interrupt their actions, they can naturally be able to take a cool action after committing to a different one. That way, ”no matter what button you press, it would respond in the way you think it thought it should respond,” game director Roland Listerin promised.
Just Cause 3 is due to be released on 1 December 2015.
