Square Enix’s long-running RPG series is eagerly anticipating the release of FFXVI, its next chapter. Its thrilling blend of melee combat and spellcasting made a significant impact when it was first unveiled. If you were among those impressed by the game, you might be curious about the potential release date of Final Fantasy XVI on PC.
Rumors about a PC release date for FF16 have been circulating since the game’s first trailer. A PC release would offer a wider audience the chance to experience the latest installment in the series, while also allowing players with powerful hardware to enjoy the game with higher visual fidelity and smoother frame rates. Here’s what we currently know about the possibility of a PC launch.
Final Fantasy 16 PC Release Date
Will FF16 be released on PC? Publisher Square Enix mainly focused on the action RPG’s PlayStation 5 version during its initial marketing efforts, mentioning little in the way of concrete details about a potential FF16 PC release date.
In February 2023, Producer Naoki Yoshida shed more light on the subject of a Final Fantasy 16 PC release date.
- Final Fantasy XVI PC Release Date: Sometime in 2024 at the earliest
“First of all, it is true that Final Fantasy 16 is a six-month limited-time exclusive on the PS5 platform. However, it is a completely different story that the PC version will be released in half a year. I will make it clear: the PC version will not come out in half a year,” he noted on the Japanese PlayStation Blog (via Wario64).
”This is because we spent a lot of time and money optimizing the PS5 platform to deliver the best gaming experience. Of course, I would like to release a PC version at some point so that everyone can play as many games as possible.”
Yoshida went on to say that “even if we start optimizing the PC version after the PS5 version comes out, we won’t be able to optimize it in half a year, so it won’t come out in a short span of half a year. I would like to release it eventually, and I think I will, but I am not at the stage where I can say when.”
Although we’re still left without an exact FF16 PC release date, this batch of details makes it clear that it won’t happen prior to 2024, considering how the action RPG is set to launch on PS5 on June 22, 2023.
The timed platform exclusivity alongside additional work needed to optimize a PC version likely means that it could easily slip into the second half of 2024.
In an interview with ASCII, via Google Translate, from May 2023, Producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed that the developer plans to “work on the development of the PC version carefully after the release” of its PS5 counterpart.
As spotted by Genki_JPN on Twitter, Producer Naoki Yoshida noted that the development team wants FFXVI to be an experience that involves seamless loading, and it didn’t have enough time to optimize for PC while working on the PS5 version. More details will be shared when the team feels comfortable doing so.
In early September, Yoshida confirmed in a video shared on X, formerly Twitter, that development for FFXVI’s PC version is now underway. Hopefully, it won’t be long until we learn more about a PC release date.
