There’s quite a bit of ground to cover in Hogwarts Legacy and doing it all using your two trusty feet isn’t always efficient. The Wizarding World has lots of solutions for all manner of problems and, not far into the game, you can get your very own broom alongside several upgrades for it.
Hogwarts Legacy’s broom is a quicker method of traversing its fairly large open world without having to rely too much on fast traveling via floo flames. As you probably expect, its upgrades allow you to fly faster.
Hogwarts Legacy Broom and Upgrades
You first get to use a broom during the main quest that revolves around you attending your very first Flying Class. This is when you’re introduced to the basic controls of flying using a broom and also get a rather scenic tour of Hogwarts Castle.
Afterwards, you can purchase a broom of your own from the Spintwitches Sporting Needs in Hogsmeade. The owner, Albie Weeks, gives you a choice between 5 different brooms, which you can preview before buying.
Each one costs 600 galleons and, although their descriptions might suggest otherwise, the differences between them are solely cosmetic.
You can purchase more brooms from specific traveling vendors across The Highlands, and further grow your collection by completing challenges that ask you to pop five balloons in certain areas of the map by flying into them.
After you get your very own Hogwarts Legacy broom Albie mentions that he can offer upgrades for it, provided you compete in Imelda Reyes’ time trials and complete them.
You can first find Imelda on the Quidditch Pitch near the school, where she’ll tell you about the three trials before challenging you to participate.
They’re essentially time trials, set on different courses, tasking you to beat a certain time. You’ll need to fly through hoops – missing them gives you a penalty of a few seconds – and can pick up bubbles along the way to grant you a speed boost.
After beating the first trial, head back to Albie and offer him the information that helps him prepare the first Hogwarts Legacy broom upgrade.
You may need to progress through the game some more before he contacts you to let you know that the upgrade is ready.
As soon as that happens, you can return to Spintwitches Sporting Needs and purchase the first broom upgrade for 1,000 galleons. It increases your broom’s acceleration and top speed.
Two more expensive upgrades can be obtained in the same way, by beating Imelda’s time trials in different parts of the world, then purchasing the upgrades from Albie.
