Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has a long year of support ahead, and the latest community update from Focus and Saber sheds some light on what to expect from Patch 7 and the long-anticipated Horde mode.
It wasn’t long ago that Update 6.0 arrived along with a 6.1 hotfix shortly afterwards. Now, Saber is ready to start talking about the next big step for the hit third-person shooter set in the WH40K universe. Long story short? More carnage is coming soon.
The official February community update (via Focus’ forums) comes loaded with new details, including the arrival of “an emblem-less Mk VIII Errant Helmet” that will be available for free right away as long as you link your PROS account to the game and “achieve a victory with each of 6 classes in Operations Mode.” Focus and Saber are calling this mini-event the Imperial Vigil Community Event.
The team has also used this chance to calm down the players who’d begun to think these events were adding FOMO into Space Marine 2 and slowly turning it into a live service game. Rest easy, as those cosmetics “will be available later, for everyone” and the events are just a way to earn them earlier.
When it comes to Update 7.0, there is no release window yet, but the promised features are the following (straight from the horse’s mouth):
- One Chapter Pack
- One Champion Pack
- Private PvP lobbies
- A new weapon (only in PvE for now)
- New Operation
- Weapon perks rebalance
- Class weapon loadouts rework
- PvE Prestige Rank: once you reach level 25 on a class, you can buy a Prestige Level that will unlock a unique Prestige Perk. Choose them wisely, because you won’t be able to change your selected Prestige Perks before unlocking the 4 Prestige Levels. On top of that power boost, each class will have a unique cosmetic reward that emphasizes the class’ iconic armour part.
As for the Horde mode, it sounds like Saber is putting extra effort into it to make it an essential part of the game that players want to engage with over and over again instead of simply putting out a half-baked attempt. “One thing we can say is that it will be very different from the Space Marine 1 Horde Mode, and that there are surprises we can’t wait for you to find out about,” the post said.
Last but not least, the Public Test Server (PTS) is aiming to launch before Patch 7. That is, at some point in March. More updates to come soon.
