The first Jurassic World Evolution DLC expansion is out on November 20, and it brings with it a load of new missions and upgrades - but most importantly, it adds new dinosaurs. Most are genetic hybrids, but the one new carnivore is the Jurassic World Evolution Troodon.
But what is the Troodon? Where have we seen it before? Has it been in the movies, or made any other significant Jurassic Park/World appearances, or even any other gaming appearances? We've got the answers.
What are the Jurassic World Evolution Troodon?
The Troodon are a venomous carnivore, whose name means "Wounding Tooth". It looks like a smaller, freakier Raptor. It could run very fast, has large eyes to see in any environment, and is famous for having one of the largest brains per body size of any dinosaur - making it arguably the most intelligent.
They have made a few appearances in the Jurassic Park series so far. They were actually mentioned in The Lost World, the second book by creator Michael Crichton (which the second movie was loosely based upon). They've not appeared in any of the movies, but have appeared in numerous videogames. Their first was in 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park game on SEGA MegaDrive/Genesis, and also appeared in a couple of park builders - although notably not Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis, the precursor to Jurassic World Evolution. They also appeared in LEGO Jurassic World.
Their biggest appearance in the series to date, though, is in the Telltale Games adventure Jurassic Park: The Game. They were the big new dinosaur threat introduced by Telltale, and constantly hunt the protagonists throughout the series.
They were hatched in secret by Dr Laura Sorkin, one of the other scientists at the park, and were only freed when Dennis Nedry deactivated the fences. Their venomous bite causes hallucinations, and other dinosaurs were scared of them. John Hammond wanted them destroyed, because he felt they were too dangerous for the Park. Obviously they weren't. It's unknown what happened to them after Jurassic World was built.
Jurassic World Evolution will be the first game since LEGO Jurassic World to feature the Troodon, although they do make an appearance in ARK: Survival Evolved. There they were highly based on their Jurassic Park: The Game appearance, right down to them being night hunters.
Jurassic World Evolution's The Secrets of Dr Wu expansion will be out November 20th.
