If you’ve been scrolling through the Steam reviews or TikToks of Resident Evil 4 Remake, you may notice a lot of players telling you to shoot the lake in the game. Some claimed that you would get a hidden reward, while others mentioned that you’d receive an outfit for Leon. That being said, is that really true?
Well, if you’re a newbie who’s just started dipping your toes in the world of Resident Evil 4, you may be in for a bit of a surprise. Let’s dive deep into what really happens when you empty a clip in the lake.
What Really Happens When You Shoot the Lake in Resident Evil 4 Remake
Shooting at the lake in the Resident Evil 4 Remake will trigger a secret easter egg, and you’ll be in for a shock. When you shoot at the lake as Leon, you will instantly be swallowed as a whole by the Del Lago lake monster. This will instantly kill you, and you’ll have to reload from your auto-save or latest save to resume your game again.
For the uninitiated, Del Lago is the first boss you’ll fight in the game. However, the actual boss fight sequence doesn’t start until you get in the boat after retrieving the boat fuel from the Fish Farm. Eventually, the boat will stall when you’re in the middle of the lake, and that’s when Del Lago strikes.
The monster will then take hold of the boat’s rope and drag you over the lake, where you’re forced to fight back. This would be the typical scenario if you didn’t shoot the lake.
Thankfully, no progress is lost if you do, but saving your game first is still a good idea if you want to trigger this in-game easter egg. Funnily enough, it seems like the entire community is just going with the flow with this, telling others that this is something they should try to unlock secret items.
Overall, this is an entertaining easter egg and a great way to surprise your friends if you’re playing with them. However, it’s also important to remember that shooting the lake will result in your death, so be careful!
