It’s been reported that Square Enix and Warner Bros. are launching rival bids for Eidos, the troubled British firm has blood in the water.
A source tells MCV they believe that Warner ”will still win” as they already command a 20 per cent stake in Eidos. Square Enix might be shopping for single assets like the IO team.
Warner needs only to inject $30 million to gain majority control of the firm, whereas a full $80 million would give them total ownership. Eidos has recently relaxed restrictions on Warner from gobbling up more shares.
Square Enix’s global president Yoichi Wada has already made a personal visit to Denmark based IO Interactive, Eidos’ Hitman developer, and is set to return to the UK to move things forward. The company has made clear its desires for a western presence and appeal.
”I think Warners will still win, but it’s very interesting that Square have expressed this late interest. They are clearly looking for Western talent,” says MCV’s source.
