From April 11 Valve will be selling the separate components which made the Orange Box in retail stores, this only applies to the PC version and not console versions.
The titles have in fact been available as stand-alone purchases but only through the online Steam service, their success has prompted Valve to move them to the shops.
Portal will be going for £19.99 while both Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode 2 will be higher at £29.99.
”Given the unique nature and length of the games inside The Orange Box, the compilation approach was the right vehicle for the debut of these titles at retail,” says Valve’s Doug Lombardi.
”With the flexibility of having different pricing and packaging options via Steam, we were able to test the market viability of the individual products. The results show an overwhelming demand for these stand-alone offerings as well as The Orange Box. This gives us tremendous confidence as we bring gamers more ways to get these titles at retail.”
For the price of the stand-alone citris slices you may has well fork out the cash for the Orange Box in the first place which is around the £30 mark. It’s simple economics people, you don’t need much learnin’.
