In a casual interview with Videogamer.com, Paul Barnett, Creative Director for Warhammer Online, spoke out on comparing Warhammer Online with the current 9000 pound gorilla of online games, World of Warcraft.
Barnett pitched the game directly to current WOW players by saying the advantages of WAR are “no item damage, no graveyard running, your bag gets bigger, you can customize your UI, the PvP is awesome, the PvE experience is still really really good, there’s lots of cool dungeons, there’s lots of grouping, and there’s Squig Herders darn it, Squig Herders I say!”
WAR is slated for public release on the 18th of September 2008. The beta release of WAR suffered from server access problems and complaints from some of those who made the beta test phase. Barnett said that they have learned their lessons though and that they expect the launch to go smoothly, even with a planned launch day patch.
Barnett makes several comparisons to WoW throughout the interview, strongly suggesting that they expect to compete head to head with World of Warcraft. Barnett claimed that “we’re a better game at launch than they were. Our game at launch compared to their game now? Well, it’s a little unfair. We’ve got a little more running to do, but we have brought lots of cool innovation.”
