In a presentation at the Austin Game Developers conference, Tim Willits, Lead Designer for Id Software, said that they were cutting back on the content in Rage, a post-apocalyptic first person shooter, because of the storage constraints of the Xbox 360. Willits said that they had decided to cut the number of exploreable wastelands from five or six down to two.
After sparking a round of commentary and concern that the Xbox 360 was holding back other platforms with more storage space Willits released a statement to Shacknews saying “There was NO CONTENT removed from RAGE because of the 360–NONE AT ALL” and adding “We feel the 360 is a great platform and will provide a fantastic Rage experience”.
Willits statement goes on to clarify that while the Xbox 360 storage limitations did modify the teams design for the game, all the content they had planned for the title will be in each version, even on the Xbox 360.
