Konami Entertainment revealed additional information on its forthcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots game for the PlayStation 3 which is scheduled to be released across Europe on June 12th.
The game will be released on a Blu-ray disc containing both Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the conclusion of Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid saga, and Kojima Productions’ multiplayer-only title Metal Gear Online.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is set in a battle-scarred future where huge conglomerates fight for supremacy using armies of hand-picked mercenaries. Within this bleak world, an aged Solid Snake has been charged with infiltrating a number of key locations across the globe, including the Middle East and South America.
As the game’s June 12th release nears, Kojima Productions has further whet appetites with a number of key additions regarding the new title’s gameplay and scenario. The Tokyo-based studio has revealed that Snake is on a UN-appointed mission, while his main adversary is Liquid Ocelot who is controlling several private armies in a scenario that is based around the future concept that war is to the 21st century, what oil was to the 20th.
These private military companies – PMCs – are integral to the events in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. During the course of the game, Snake can team-up with local militia and trade items with them, with Hal “Otacon” Emmerich back again to provide Snake with key intel. Otacon provides Snake with local information and useful hardware, including the Metal Gear Mk.II, a small remote-controlled robot with cloaking and offensive capabilities. Similarly, a new character called Drebin joins the cast, who buys and sells weapons from the player, allowing him or her to amass valuable Drebin Points to purchase more powerful weapons.
Other key additions to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots include rumble support for the new DualShock 3 controller, full 5.1 Dolby surround sound support, and more interactivity during the cutscenes such as allowing users to change angles and summon flashbacks.
