In a move to simplify the age rating system for the videogames industry in Europe, PEGI are to proceed with ditching their black & white funny pictures for colours.
In the UK however no decision has been made yet as the industry is awaiting the end of the ”consultation period” with the Government, reveals ELSPA’s Michael Rawlinson.
Currently the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has presiding power of the ratings system for videogames and has been publicly criticised by both PEGI and ELSPA for inconsistent standards.
”Whether they will appear on boxes in the UK will depend on the outcome of this consultation period and the decision made by the UK government in the new year,” explained Rawlinson.
”The introduction of traffic light colours and changes to the descriptors have been approved, they are now being worked through with lawyers to ensure they do not infringe any existing trademarks and can be adopted smoothly,” he added.
