Louise Ridgeway of Rare has admitted ”no one knows who” Rare are really, and that seeing someone like Peter Molyneux regularly is great, his promotion is great.
Rare’s Art Director Steve McFarlane says the awareness of their studio ”has dropped” over the last few years, that Molyneux being the ”new face of Rare” will be ”a great thing” for them.
Basically, things are great! ”It’s great that he’s been promoted into this new creative position and encompassing Lionhead and Rare as well,” Ridgeway said to OXM.
”He’s been up quite a bit over the last few months. He comes up regularly and it’s great to see someone like Pete here. It gives us a little bit of a face because no-one knows who we are!”
McFarlane chimes in with similar praise for the Lionhead Studios boss, noting his celebrity should help shine a light on their developers and projects more.
”Once we were bought up by Microsoft obviously things have changed within the top ranks and stuff,” said the Rare art man. ”And I think over the last few years maybe the awareness of Rare has dropped. And the idea of Pete coming in and being this new face of Rare it’s a great thing for us. It’s really just to get us out there a bit more.”
Both Ridgeway and McFarlane will be giving a chinwag at Develop on July 14th, talking about Rare’s creation of the Xbox 360 Avatars and how they’ll ‘evolve’ over time.
