SCEA executive John Koller has said only the PS3 has the juice to power such a ”spectacular” game as MAG, which sees 256 players online.
The sheer processing requirements of being able to show that many players at ”any given time, and their actions” is beyond the Xbox 360 claims hardware marketing boss Koller.
”MAG is a 256 online-player game which is spectacular,” Koller said during the GDC. ”If you look at that competitively, it’s something that’s only possible on PS3. The processor speed, the ability of PS3 to showcase 256 players at any given time, and their actions.”
”It’s basically like an iteration of SOCOM, where you’re maybe commanding the SEALs, and someone else has the Rangers, and the Green Berets, and so on,” he continued, trying to sum up developer Zipper’s concept for the ambitious game.
MAG is expected to release later this year, exclusively for the PlayStation 3 console in case you couldn’t have guessed that. It was Sony’s big hoorah announcement at last year’s E3 event.
