The newly formed Tecmo Koei has had its CEO, Kenji Matsubara, reveal they’ve been asking Sony to slice away some price points on the PlayStation 3.
Matsubara-san always asks Sony reps to ”please cut the price,” but admits he’s no clue on their ”situation” with PS3. They ”would welcome a price cut”, it would boost ”the PS3 market”.
”Whenever I discuss this with Sony reps I always ask them: ‘Please cut the price’, but I don’t have a clear view on Sony’s situation,” Matsubara-san told CVG in an interview.
”Yes, from a publisher’s point of view we would welcome a price cut for PS3, and we are waiting, definitely,” he added, which is a much lighter tone taken than by Activision, who practically threaten to throw their PlayStation toys out the pram.
”It’s definitely a way of boosting the PS3 market, but it’s Sony’s strategy and I don’t know their cost structure. Sony introduced cutting-edge technology in the PS3, that’s why people in the industry accept that the PS3 cost is so high, but we’d welcome a price cut.”
It’s believed a price cut is in fact due later this year from Sony, to coincide with the launch of a new slim line model for the next-gen machine. What do you think, videogamer? Will Sony have a snip before Microsoft take another?
