Free Realms, which is also in development for PS3, will be released on the PC way before Sony’s console. Beta testing will start within ”a couple of weeks” according to associate art director Sebastian Strzalkowski.
Strzalkowski also confirmed that the PS3 version is further away, hinting at a release nearer July or September, presumably once they gauge the interest from the public and address any issues reviews pick up.
Additional content will be available to PS3 owners, who will be able to download the game free through the PSN.
SOE wants to push the title in as many directions as possible, as Strzalkowski claimed the Mac client will be a great avenue to venture down. He stated that the Mac is ”definitely on the list of platforms we want to develop for” and also mentioned the possibility of Free Realms utilising the capabilities of mobile applicants.
Early presentations have shown a slick and stylish take to the MMO genre. Aimed at 10-14 year olds, it appears SOE are taking development very seriously, with a team of over 100 strong to oversee its progress in the company’s San Diego headquarters.
The game will feature hundreds of unlockable items including clothes, cosmetics, pets and racing vehicles. Players will be able to access premium content via a $6 subscription, even though the main content is free for all.
Expect further details as we get them.
