Hideo Kojima knows that despite having announced Guns of the Patriots was to be the last, people still want a MGS5 to be in the cards.
While his studio isn’t entirely owned by Konami the MGS creator feels the pressure from the”business side of things” at the publisher, to keep it ”a successful, ongoing series.” Will he relent?
”Sure, there is definitely pressure,” Kojima tells Kikizo in an interview.
”We don’t belong wholly to Konami, so that pressure might be lighter, but since Kojima Productions is a part of Konami and Konami does the business side of things, yeah, I feel pressure there, that there’s a need for it to be a successful, ongoing series.”
He also pretty much ruled out a remake of the earlier games, in case that’s where fans think he might head. ”I think creating that now wouldn’t really be ‘cool’. I’m not saying that I shouldn’t do it, but I think that I probably won’t.”
An outsider asking to handle the remakes would get Kojima’s attention but he has doubts another studio could capture what Metal Gear Solid is all about. ”What you expect in a Metal Gear is probably only possible by Kojima Productions. I don’t know if other Konami studios could really achieve a satisfactory result for the user,” noted the studio boss.
”But if I get an offer from an overseas company saying they really want to do it, that could be an option. But myself - I personally don’t think it’s on the cards.”
Kojima Productions next game will be announced at this year’s E3.
