Here’s the press release:
After the highly touted release of its first batch of beloved classic PC games, Ubisoft®, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, has unleashed today a furious follow-up barrage of DRM-free retro-gaming goodness upon GOG.com (http://www.gog.com), the games-on-demand platform dedicated to DRM-free classic PC games.
The extension of the existing agreement brings more classic Ubisoft titles like Heroes of Might and Magic® 2 Gold Edition, Heroes of Might and Magic® 3 Complete Edition, The Settlers® 2 Gold Edition and the stunning Might and Magic® 6 Limited Edition, which includes parts 1–6 of the landmark RPG series. All games are totally DRM-free, fully compatible with XP and Vista and accompanied by mounds of extras, including soundtracks, wallpapers, forum avatars, maps and much more.
The Heroes of Might and Magic® series is probably one of the best-known and beloved series of turn-based strategy games with RPG elements. Both new additions to GOG.com’s catalogue, Heroes of Might and Magic® 2 and 3 were milestones in the genre and helped fantasy strategy games rise to popularity. Your main goal as the leader of heroes is to guide your armies through different mystical and magical lands, gathering resources, finding treasures and fighting enemies. The winning gameplay formula will have you playing for weeks.
From Blue Byte Studios comes The Settlers® 2 Gold Edition, the sequel to the popular strategy game. You start with only one building in a completely new land; your goal is to settle it. To do this you have to gather resources, build new buildings and expand your colony even if it means declaring a war against other settlers.
Might and Magic® 6 Limited Edition is a collection of the first six parts of the acclaimed dungeon-crawler RPG series. Starting with the first part of the saga, which was released in 1986 and redefined the RPG genre, through the sixth chapter in 1998, you will be hunting quests all over medieval and magical lands to gain enough power and experience to overcome evil.
“This is something that we and our users have been eagerly anticipating. After announcing the arrival of Ubisoft games on GOG.com and after the warm welcome received by the first part of the Heroes of Might and Magic series, we were sure that we needed to get our hands on more classics from Ubisoft,” said Adam Oldakowski, Managing Director of GOG.com. “I know that our users will be overjoyed with the additions. This is another step in the direction of becoming the ultimate destination for fans of classic PC games.”
With today’s announcement, GOG.com’s offer has expanded with Heroes of Might and Magic® 2 (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/heroes_of_might_and_magic_2_gold_edition) and The Settlers® 2 Gold Edition (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_settlers_2_gold_edition). Other titles will be added in the coming weeks.
