Valve unveiled a new special infected unit for Left 4 Dead 2 at Comic-Con, which coincidentally is near identical to a fans concept idea of The Spitter.
That same fan also happens to be a part of the L4D2 Boycott group, and would rather see this product of creative convergence added as DLC to the original game. Valve didn’t steal.
”The concept behind convergence is that similar problems require similar solutions,” posted Walking_Target, the fan who posted his concept for The Spitter.
”Take a dozen people and one problem, wait a week and you’ll have at least 3 ideas that are extremely similar, sometimes so much so that they are indistinguishable from each other. This happens more frequently when there is a limited variety of tools or materials to work with.”
”The first reaction of these folks, including myself, is to think ‘Hey, they ripped me off”. This is not really the case though,” they continued. While defending Valve and dismissing any notion of theft, the ”big issue” is that it should be added to Left 4 Dead, ”not to be used in L4D2.”
Left 4 Dead 2 is being released on Xbox 360 and PC this November 17th. See the clip below for some sporadic gameplay footage.
