The Eberron Unlimited update has been ”nothing short of phenomenal” for the game. More users than ever are joining in, injecting ”new energy”.
Until September of last year, D&D Online was like most other MMOs employing a monthly subscription based model for players. Turbine then introduced ‘Eberron Unlimited’ which changed that to a free-to-play one, with subs turned optional.
”The response from players to DDO Unlimited has been nothing short of phenomenal,” said Turbine chief Jim Crowley, reports GamesIndustry.biz.
”We’ve known all along how great this game is and by implementing an innovative new model that put the players in charge of how they pay and play DDO Unlimited, we’ve successfully expanded our reach and injected new energy into the game.”
Items and services within D&D Online are now microtransaction based, and Turbine’s digital store enjoys three times the industry average of sales they say.
”The launch of DDO Unlimited has been a huge success and has really taken the game to a new level,” said DDO executive producer Fernando Paiz.
”As we celebrate our 4th birthday, the game has never been better and we’re just getting started with more adventure packs, more store items, and other innovative features coming in the major updates we have planned throughout 2010.”
Have you taken up D&D Online since the free-to-play change over? Sadly it’s only available to US gamers for the time being, with Turbine considering it for Europe also.
