UFC Undisputed 2010 for console includes digit codes to access multiplayer, with owners of second-hand copies needing to pay a one off $5.
This is essentially EA’s Project Ten Dollar - which rewards first-time buyers with additional free content while buyers of second-hand will need to pay a few dollars more if they want access themselves. It’s designed to let the publisher reap some cash back.
Ubisoft has already expressed a keen interest in this method with CFO Alain Martinez admitting they would ”probably follow that line sometime in the future”, by adopting their own style of Project Ten Dollar.
”This is a significant value-add to the game as players can continually improve their skills by training with their friends and bringing teams of MMA specialists together,” said THQ.
”This multiplayer content for UFC 2010 Undisputed will be available via a one-time code included with the game at purchase. Codes for accessing the content will be available for second-time buyers for an additional $5,” they continued, reports Eurogamer.
Is this a fair way for publishers to make money off the second-hand sales market, of which they get nothing from the retailers?
