What does the error message “Failed to Connect to Voice Server” mean in Phasmophobia? Phasmophobia uses the Vivox voice chat system to facilitate player communication during online co-op hunts. However, if you come across a “Voice Server” error and your friends can no longer hear you, it typically indicates a connection issue with the Vivox servers. These issues can stem from network disruptions, server downtime, or misconfigurations in your firewall or network settings.
The Voice Server error message is an issue that you will run into from time to time but has seen a recent uptick following the announcement of the Halloween Event and the upcoming console ports.
How do you fix the Failed to Connect to Voice Server Error in Phasmophobia
Verifying the integrity of game files on Steam may help resolve the issue, or you might consider reinstalling the game. However, the effectiveness of these solutions often depends on your region and the current status of the Vivox servers. Using a VPN can also be a viable solution, especially if regional server issues are causing the problem, and might be worth trying if you have access to one. We would recommend waiting a few hours to see if the Vivox servers are offline before trying these methods.
Kinetic Games has acknowledged these error messages in the past, saying that these server prompts are “bugged at the moment where you will sometimes be disconnected from the voice server when loading into a level.”
“As a temporary solution, I am going to look into a way of reconnecting to the game so you can leave and rejoin to reconnect to the voice server.” it was mentioned back in 2020 on the Steam forums, but since then there’s been no mention of the issue, as of the 23rd of October, 2024.
Possible fixes:
- Verifying the integrity of game files on Steam
- Completely remove Phasmophobia from the hard drive and reinstall
- Use a VPN to change your region and connection to the Vivox servers
- Check your firewall or network settings
You can try playing around with some of the audio options present in the menu system, which you will see in the screenshot we grabbed above. In some cases, this has helped resolve the issue.
