Originally named Illusion Softworks, it was rebranded 2K Czech in 2008 and developed Mafia II and Top Spin 4. Their goal of top notch games ”remains unchanged.”
2K Czech operates two studios with their offices in Brno losing 40 members of staff while another in Prague is reported to have lost under 10. About a quarter of 2K Czechs workforce has been cut as the group employed around 200 people.
“Our goal to create world-class video game titles remains unchanged,” said 2K Games, and 2K Czech has ”has realigned its resources to streamline the development process, reduce costs and maximize studio performance”.
”This will result in the elimination of approximately 40 positions and primarily impact the 2K Czech studio in Brno. While this was a difficult decision, we believe it will benefit the studio in the long-term,” the company statement continued.
2K Czech released Mafia 2 in 2010 and Top Spin 4 this year which sold out in the UK thanks to the tennis sports craze driven by Wimbledon.
