For the three months ending December 31st Sony report an operating profit of $564m, all thanks to high software sales and further cost reductions.
Sales in fact fell 6 percent overall year-on-year to $6.995m for those three months. During Q3 they shifted 6.3 million PS3 consoles around the globe bringing the total fiscal year tally so far up to 15 million, which already beats last year’s absolute total of 13m.
PSPs cleared 3.6 million and PS2 matched last year’s 2.1 million in Q3 2009. PlayStation 3 videogame sales rose by 10 million to 57.6 million for the quarter now past. PSP games hit 16.5 million while PS2 titles tumbled to 5.3 million.
Overall Sony is fighting fit with a net profit of $885.7m.
