Analyst Michael Pachter feels it’s ”a deterrent” for most hackers given the litigation and ”costs involved” if dragged to court, or at least in countries ”respecting” IP.
”I’m confident that most hackers will see the potential for litigation – and the costs involved – as a deterrent, at least in those countries that have laws respecting intellectual property rights,” said Pachter. Hotz is not permitted to promote his Jailbreak PS3 code.
”Sony is glad to put this litigation behind us,” said Sony legal counsel Riley Russel.
“Our motivation for bringing this litigation was to protect our intellectual property and our consumers. We believe this settlement and the permanent injunction achieve this goal.” Unfortunately for Sony they’re still ‘under siege’ from hack group Anonymous.
