Disney is shedding its current method of videogames business and is now embracing an all encompassing ”digital media” approach to pursue profit.
This means staff are being let go and Disney Interactive have just laid off another group, putting about 80 employees on notice in their online division.
These layoffs are ”targeted” claim Disney, and that it’s ”part of setting a strategic direction for future success in digital media.” Disney’s videogames business has been very disappointing for the parent company after poor quarterly reports.
Revenue jumped 58 percent to $349 million during October-December thanks to Epic Mickey, which sold over 1.3 million copies for Nintendo Wii. Critics were generally unimpressed with the game citing gameplay issues, and ‘hating’ the camera views.
