UPDATE: Valve has told Strategy Informer that there will be no Move support at all for Portal 2.
Valve’s Chet Faliszek reveals that Portal 2 will be supporting PlayStation Move although it ”isn’t fully integrated yet.” It’s ”compensation” to PS3 Valve fans.So is the ”PS3-exclusive cloud saving” which won’t appear for Xbox 360, and also PS3 owners get a code for the PC version free - they can cross-play too.
”We made a mistake back then and gave the Orange Box console versions to an external team. They did a good job, but didn’t quite achieve the same quality level that we have at Valve,” said Chet Faliszek in a German interview.
”Now everything happens in-house, we created a special console department just for that.” The PS3 version supports Steamworks, a first for Valve. ”So the move to the PlayStation 3 comes late - we’re sorry for that. As a small compensation we have PS3-exclusive cloud saving, a free code for PC and complete PlayStation Move support.”
”Look at it as a compensation for Left 4 Dead.” He added: ”Move is also a completely new experience for us, thus the system isn’t fully integrated yet.”
The PlayStation 3 version comes with a free PC code, cloud-saving and can also connect up with PC Portal 2 players online. ”We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PS3 would be the best console version of the product,” said Gabe Newell.
Portal 2 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC April 22nd.
