Sony has issued a statement but doesn’t confirm or dismiss the claim. Instead they just chest-thump what a ”very exciting time” this is for PlayStation with NGP.
The PSPgo as you might remember is a PlayStation Portable model that only supports digital titles as it can’t play UMD PSP titles from the store. Sony admits a digital-only PSP was a commercial failure but was adamant it was worth trying.
PSPgo has been taken off the Japanese Sony Store pages with no information on be restocked. Sony is betting big with their upcoming NGP which is said to rival the PS3. Here’s a whitewash statement from Sony completely sidestepping if the PSPgo is dead:
”It is a very exciting time for PlayStation portable devices. Before the end of the year we are launching NGP, our next generation portable device, which we believe will revolutionise portable gaming,” said Sony.
”In the meantime, the current generation of PSPs continue to be in demand, especially since the introduction of our value for money, Essentials range of games and we will continue to meet that demand.” You should run for office Sony, we got no answer at all.
