While trying to ”avoid hyperbole,” Kroese proclaims it will ”change television as we know it” thanks to interaction. TV ads are ”stubbornly passive and one-way”.
Special TV commercials that support Kinect and NUads will be ready as early as Spring 2012. ”I try to avoid hyperbole,” teases Mark Kroese, head of Microsoft’s advertsing for entertainment and devices. “But in this case of NUads and Kinect, I’m here to say that it will change television as we know it—forever.”
Kroese revealed through the Microsoft Advertising Business Conference at the Cannes International Advertising Festival that ads across Xbox Live will respond to Kinect. As an example viewers can vote for a product or service in real-time with a hand gesture.
You can schedule a reminder for a TV show or even say ‘Xbox Near Me’ to have directions to the nearest retailer or dealership for certain products. Televised advertisements reach broad audiences but they’re ”stubbornly passive and one-way”.
PC and mobile devices already offered interactive ads and now TV can catch up with Kinect. ”People are inherently interactive all on their own,” wrote Kroese. “We just needed the technology to get out of their way.” Kinect holds a Guinness World Record.
