During an investor call, Sony’s executive vice president and chief financial officer Masaru Kato stated that a “future platform” to follow the PS3 was “already under way”.
Kato stated during the call: ”For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life. but this is a platform business, so for the future platform - when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that - but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.”
Of course, this could be a line fed to investors questioning Sony that if Nintendo was releasing a new console, where was Sony’s? Three months ago, Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai flatly stated that development on the PlayStation 4 was on the “backburner” as the company focused on the NGP.
