Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, has announced this year’s Summer of Arcade lineup, which includes the following titles:
Bastion (July 20, 1200 MSP): This is an interesting action roleplaying game that is basically Diablo - with a narrator describing everything your character does or should do.
From Dust (July 27, 1200 MSP): Another weird physics-based puzzle game that is also a Populous-styled God game, where you play a diety who uses his powers to change the landscape to help His followers thrive.
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet (August 3, 1200 MSP): Continuing the trend of weird Summer of Arcade games, this is an indie effort which takes the player on a side-scrolling shooter through a surrealistic, alien landscape.
Fruit Ninja Kinect (August 10, 800 MSP): An adaptation of the insanely popular iPhone game in which you slice fruit with a virtual katana. Instead of a touch screen, you swing an air sword at the fruit.
Toy Soldiers: Cold War (August 17, 1200 MSP): A fun 1980’s update to the fun World War I tower defense game; you even get to control a toy doll of John Rambo at one point!
Players who purchase all of the Summer of Arcade games get Crimson Alliance free, which will be released September 7 later in the year. That game is another action-RPG, but requiring players to purchase all five games means they’d better own a Kinect if they want to have fun with Fruit Ninja Kinect.
