GameSpot Australia was informed by an anonymous source that the GAME Australia chain will be completely liquidated by the end of next week, with the company currently $120M in debt.
The retail chain went into administration several weeks ago, with PricewaterhouseCoopers appointed as the administrator. While there were some reports that GAME Australia had some interested buyers, the source has announced that all of them had since walked away.
A PricewaterhouseCoopers rep refuted the rumor that GAME Australia was slated for liquidation, and informed GameSpot AU that ”there are a few options if the company is not sold.” The rep did not deny, however, that liquidation was an option for the company.
For the time being, Australian gamers have been reassured that the stores will operate ”as close to business as usual.” They are urged, however, to monitor the official website for updates regarding their preorder deposits.
Stay tuned.
