EA Sports is considering what mechanics and movies from the upcoming FIFA Street reboot to incorporate into the next pro soccer title, FIFA 13. Even though the upcoming street soccer game was created using the FIFA 12 engine, instead of the cartoonish graphics from previous entries, the game features such new mechanics as a new dribbling system and the ability to root a player using the left trigger.
”I worked very closely with Aaron McHardy, the lead gameplay designer on FIFA. He and I worked together on FIFA 9, 10 and 11, so obviously we’ve very close. We’re in the same building. We’re basically in the next room. We took a lot of FIFA 12 functionality. The engineers and designers were in close contact.” said FIFA Street creative director Gary Paterson.
Paterson then mentioned that McHardy’s team was taking a close look at what was done with the engine in FIFA Street. They are also taking some consideration into what parts of the game to incorporate into FIFA 13, and what mechanics would be appropriate for a pro game.
”Standing ball control, is there something there? It’s a very intuitive and elegant mechanic but it’s not something you see too often in real football. But maybe there are elements of it that can be shared and taken. It’s something they’re evaluating right now. I don’t think any decisions have been made,” Paterson gave as an example.
FIFA Street is due for release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on the 16th March in Europe, and the 13th in North America.
