When Thursday comes around it means only one thing: Consumers. Whilst it’s the second official day for someone like me, regular gamers are just there to look around the consumer halls. To someone who doesn’t like being encased in crowds of sweaty people, this basically means stay the eff away from the consumer halls. Luckily, you shouldn’t really have any appointments in the consumer area, and if you did, you were smart enough to get them all out of the way on the Press-only Wednesday.
Here’s a round up of what we saw today:
Of Orcs and Men – Focus Home Interactive style=greyItalic We saw this last year (NOTE: Link to previous preview and delete this), and to be honest not a lot seems to have changed since then. It still looks pretty, combat still looks ok if a bit clunky and uninspired, but we reckon the story will carry it through.
Total War: Rome II – Creative Assembly style=greyItalic This was us just playing catch-up as we never saw the demo that was held in Horsham, but it still looks pretty sweet. An interview with James Russell will hopefully allay some of the fears you may have regarding a lot of the new ideas this game seems to have, but to be honest a lot of this is very much “remains to be seen”.
Until Dawn – Sony style=greyItalic A teen horror flick made into a videogame, this bite-sized slice of interactive entertainment is shaping up to be as shameless as it is different. It’s built solely for the PlayStation Move from the ground up, and has a lot of subtler game mechanics, whilst wrapped in a cheesy teenage horror package.
Beyond: Two Souls – Sony style=greyItalic The new Quantic Dreams game was bound to get a lot of attention, and we couldn’t resist a chance to see what so many got to witness at E3. There was no new code – it was all E3 stuff, but it was interesting seeing the gameplay up close, and fans of Heavy Rain probably won’t be disappointed.
DayZ – Bohemia Interactive style=greyItalic With the recent announcement of the DayZ stand-alone product, we had to go talk to Dean ‘Rocket’ Hall and have a chat. A fascinating and interesting man, and we hope to share his thoughts with you at some point.
Highlight: Wargame: AirLand – Focus Home Interactive style=greyItalic Even if it is named after a legitimate US Army Doctrine for Cold War Europe, it’s still a shite name. What it’s not though, is a shite game… with major graphical improvements, jets (150 of them all told) 250 extra land vehicles and four new factions, AirLand battle is going to be the supreme Wargame experience… some consumers may get a bit iffy about having to shell out for a new stand-alone game so soon (that is confirmed NOT to be a sequel) but we heard it straight from the horses mouth that many of the improvements just aren’t possible as European Escalation DLC.
Not as hectic as yesterday, although it involved a lot more walking around. Friday is the last day of appointments, which will mainly involve Assassins Creed III, ArmA III, Bethesda and 1C. As always, stay tuned!
